Since 1998, our not-for-profit program has served all seniors, age 60 and over, who live in McHenry County or Sun City Huntley. The mission of Senior Care Volunteer Network is to support our senior neighbors who live independently. We connect community volunteers with seniors who require assistance to maintain their dignity and quality of life.
Volunteers help us achieve our mission by providing services such as transportation to life critical, life-sustaining as well as life-enriching destinations, friendly visits, minor home repairs, yard work, and shopping all at absolutely no charge to the senior.
When a senior is able to attend necessary medical appointments, our transportation services are life-sustaining. However, our other services help seniors feel less isolated and decrease feelings of anxiety and depression. When they know there is someone there for them, someone who cares, and they know they can still be an integral part of their community, they remain independent longer.
There is concern about the growing senior population both nationally and in our community. In 2011, 10,000 baby boomers a day started turning 65. McHenry County has the fourth fastest growing senior population in the state and research indicates that our county senior population will increase 157% by 2030. Please consider volunteering with us; an hour of your time is all it takes to make a real difference in the life of a senior who needs you!
